If you include brushing, flossing, and rinsing in your oral hygiene routine, then you’re on the right track toward a top-notch oral health and smile. Today, Dr. Paul Vartabedian and our dental team would like to talk about rinsing because many don’t know how to properly rinse their mouth. So, to help you have the best rinsing technique, we are happy to share specific instructions with you.
Before you begin rinsing, it’s important to make sure you have the best mouthwash for your smile. It’s best to use a product that has been approved by the American Dental Association. It’s also recommended to use fluoride, antibacterial, or antiseptic mouthwash.
Now that you’re ready, you can check the instructions on the bottle. They should mention the amount of time recommended to swish. Next, pour the rinse into the cap or into a cup. The amount you pour should be based on the amount of rinse you feel comfortable swishing. Then, pour the rinse into your mouth and swish it for the recommended amount of time. When the time is up, spit the rinse into the sink and do not eat or drink anything for about 30 minutes.
