Missing teeth need to be replaced. If you are missing teeth, your ability to eat and speak can be compromised; plaque and bacteria can use the empty slots in your smile to accumulate, and your remaining teeth can drift out of alignment. One of the biggest problems with missing teeth is the negative impact on your appearance and self-esteem. And this problem is magnified if you are missing your front teeth. In this case, a flipper denture may work well for you.

A flipper is not a denture, but a retainer with prosthetic teeth mounted on the front. Normally, flippers are not used as a permanent replacement for your teeth. In most cases, you may be given a flipper to wear while your permanent dentures or are being made, or you are getting ready for some other tooth replacement. However, because flippers are less expensive than regular dentures and other replacement methods, one may work for you if cost is a concern.

Your flipper can be easily moved, or “flipped” out of place, and you should avoid moving it around in your mouth. Your flipper will not be as strong as a normal set of dentures, and you should keep that in mind when eating tough or hard foods. Use a toothbrush with soft bristles or a denture brush to clean your dentures. Avoid using regular toothpaste on your flipper, since the abrasives can damage the material. Instead, use a toothpaste formulated for dentures. You should soak your flipper overnight in a denture solution to keep it from warping out of shape, and to sanitize it.
