Here at Paul Vartabedian, DDS, we want to give you a first-rate treatment to replace or fix your teeth and fully restore your beautiful smile. Patients often wonder, “How do I know if I need a dental crown or a bridge?” Depending on your particular case, your dentist may decide to give you a crown or a bridge. Dental crowns attach to weak, fractured, discolored, poorly shaped, or otherwise damaged teeth in order to mend them, while dental bridges are prosthetic teeth used to fully replace missing ones.

How does getting a dental crown work? Our friendly dentist, Dr. Paul Vartabedian, will apply a crown to cover your damaged tooth or teeth. In order to create a crown that is fit for your mouth, Dr. Paul Vartabedian will take an impression to make a mold of the tooth or teeth that the crown will be covering. A dental lab will form the crown, and our dentist can easily cement it onto your tooth. Crowns are typically composed of gold, ceramic, porcelain infused with metal, or a base metal alloy.

Now you understand how a tooth is capped, but what if your entire tooth is missing? That is what dental bridges are used for. They are cemented to the natural teeth, or implants around them, in order to bridge a gap and keep your teeth aligned. Just like with dental crowns, a mold will be taken to produce the bridge and the material options are also the same.
