Having a tooth knocked out is a traumatic experience that can pose immediate and long-lasting complications. In most cases, the tooth itself is too badly damaged and your gums may need sutures to prevent pain and infection. If the tooth is not restored by some means, it will impair your ability to chew. A missing tooth can also slur your speech or cause alignment issues to gradually develop in the surrounding teeth.

To prevent these complications, Dr. Paul Vartabedian may recommend restoring a knocked out tooth in your mouth by installing a bridge. This is a solid piece of dental work that essentially mimics the appearance of a natural tooth. It is fused to a pair of crowns that are anchored on abutments formed from the neighboring teeth.

Dr. Paul Vartabedian will form the abutments by removing the tooth enamel from the two closest teeth. Then an impression of the abutments will be made, as well as the void and any other corresponding teeth in your bite. This will be sent to our dental lab where your new bridge will be made.

A temporary crown will be secured over each abutment to protect it, and we will call you back in for a brief follow-up appointment when your new bridge is ready. The temporary crowns will be removed and Dr. Paul Vartabedian will cement your new bridge in place.
